A couple of weeks ago, Brightspot employees had the opportunity to leave the office early and head over to Kartland Performance Indoor Raceway for our seasonal team builder event. While there, I was able to learn a lot about why team builders are important.

In the weeks leading up to the team builder, our Culture Committee separated us into three groups and made us shirts specifically for the event. These were announced the week of the event which provided time for us to start some friendly competition before we arrived.  While we were there, we had a blast getting to relax and enjoy the afternoon with work friends. For me, the summer intern, I did not have a lot of predetermined work friends, but it provided an awesome opportunity for me to get to know the other intern and some of the people I don’t work with on a daily basis.

Go cart racing was an excellent opportunity to learn why team builders are important

Why are team builders so important for your company?

They Boost Morale

It has been proven time and time again that it is important to keep your employees happy. Employees that are happy with their work and company will stay there longer, thus reducing turnover costs. Therefore, spending a little money to give your employees the opportunity to have some fun can actually save you money over time while also allowing them to be more excited about where they work!

They are Fun!

Need I say more? When chosen correctly, team builders are important because they provide an opportunity for people to cut loose and de-stress. Notice the key words here: “when chosen correctly”. If your company is anything like ours, you may have a lot of very competitive people. That means an event like go-kart racing or Whirly Ball would be fun for your group. However, if your group is not as competitive, they may want a less intense substitute on hand. It could be more enjoyable to take them to an afternoon of Painting with a Twist, a local sporting event, or a tour of your local zoo! It might be beneficial to take a survey of what they like and decide from there what team builder will best build your team.

They Allow the Office to Get to Know Each Other Outside of Work

Lastly, it provides the opportunity for your employees to not only get to know each other better but to also get to know upper-level management more and have fun doing it. As I mentioned earlier, I am the summer intern here at Brightspot and I did not know a lot of people going into this team builder. However, the team builder allowed me to become more familiar with the people I am working for this summer and I thought this was an awesome experience that I hope to see again in my career!

Brightspot is glad to help you create the perfect team builder or event for your employees. For more information, check out our website.
