5 Reasons to Love Costa Rica Incentive Travel

Why do I love Costa Rica? I have personally guided several incentive travel groups to Costa Rica over the past 10+ years, and if you’ve had the opportunity to visit Costa Rica, you probably already know the answers. Here are the five reasons Costa Rica makes for an incredible incentive travel experience.

1. Scenery

For starters, the sheer beauty of Costa Rica as your flight approaches is amazing and sets the tone right away; you’ve just arrived in a tropical paradise. The countryside is covered with lush jungles spreading all the way out to sun-drenched sandy beaches. Costa Rica is also known for its rich abundance of plant life and exotic animals that thrive in this unique climate. As part of the Pacific Fire Belt, it has over 200 volcanoes (several of which are still active) adding to the grandeur of its already varied surroundings. You can go from ziplining in the jungle to a volcano hike to relaxing at the beach all in the same day!

2. Activities

Whether your incentive travel group is looking to stay active and go on excursions or relax and take advantage of the luxurious surroundings (or somewhere in the middle) Costa Rica offers it all. Explore the jungles, visit volcanoes, hike, and 4-wheel into the mountains, and zipline your way back in time for cocktails on the beach. If you have a group of avid golfers, the courses in Costa Rica are world-class, such as the Palmer Signature Course in Papagayo. Views from elevated tee boxes offer ocean vistas and mountain ranges all in the same glance. Of course, you can always relax on the beach and soak up the sun to live what the locals call “Pura Vida,” or, “Pure Life.”

3. Properties

The resort properties in Costa Rica are some of the finest in the world. With a range of offerings and amenities, all-inclusive value, and high-end luxury there is an option that can be tailored to your desired experience that will fit any budget. Head down to the resort pool for refreshments, water volleyball, and catching up with friends. Or, maybe find that hidden away palapa for a much-needed nap in the shade. Onsite restaurants provide a wide range of dining experiences. Stop at the hut in shorts for a tasty bite or get all dolled up for that night of extravagant dining and fun. Costa Rica resort options offer everything from the team-building experience to the quaint and more private rewards of incentive travel. And, you can usually have it all within one property.

4. Infrastructure

United States travel to and from Costa Rica is easy. Many flights are available from around the US to Liberia or San Jose, Costa Rica on major airlines. This makes it easy to get everyone in your incentive travel group together and organized. The local airports in Costa Rica are clean, modern, and safe with abundant ground transportation options. The highways and main roads are very safe as long as you plan for the rainy season.

San Jose Airport allows for a streamlined international travel itinerary.

5. People

All the reasons above are enough to take you to Costa Rica, but what brings you back are the people. They are genuinely the nicest and most gracious people of any “destination” country that I’ve visited. To share an example, I took several hundred people there on an incentive trip a few years ago. My husband had traveled with me on a few of these trips and ended up developing a friendship with some of the people at the resort. After a couple of years of being away, upon returning he immediately ran into those same friends and was recognized and welcomed as if he was a long-lost cousin. The Costa Rican people are phenomenal hosts and they’re sure to make you feel welcome. Pura Vida!
